FAQs
Is this a full spectrum hybrid sauna?
Yes. Finnmark Designs hybrid saunas combine full spectrum infrared (near, mid, and far infrared) with a traditional Harvia heater and red light therapy in one cabin. This gives you the flexibility to use infrared, traditional heat/steam, red light therapy, or a combination depending on your comfort level and wellness goals.
Hybrid models are ideal for customers who want the deeper body-warming feel of infrared plus the classic high-heat experience and steam option of a traditional sauna.
Does the hybrid sauna include red light therapy?
Yes. Finnmark hybrid saunas include Spectrum Red Light™ Therapy featuring a medical-grade LED panel producing 650 nanometers of red light. This is commonly used to support skin health, collagen production, recovery, and overall cellular wellness. It also includes chromotherapy for mood and relaxation support.
Red light therapy is separate from heating, so you can use it on its own or during infrared and/or traditional sessions.
What is the maximum temperature, and how does it differ in infrared vs. traditional mode?
Hybrid saunas have two heating systems, so maximum temperature depends on the mode you’re using:
- Infrared mode: up to approximately 170°F
- Traditional Harvia heater mode: up to approximately 194°F
Infrared warms the body more directly at lower air temperatures. Traditional heat raises the air temperature higher and allows steam when water is added to the stones.

How long does it take to heat up?
Heat-up time depends on which heating system you’re using, the room temperature where the sauna is installed, and the temperature you’re targeting.
- Infrared mode: most customers reach a comfortable “start sweating” range in about 20–40 minutes.
- Traditional heater mode: can take longer to reach higher cabin temperatures, especially in colder environments or when pushing toward maximum heat. Usually 40-50 minutes.
For best results, keep the door closed during warm-up and allow extra time in garages or cold rooms.
Does this sauna produce steam?
Yes. Finnmark hybrid saunas include a traditional Harvia sauna heater with stones, which allows you to create steam by ladling water over the heated rocks.
Steam sessions are optional. You can use the sauna in infrared-only mode with no steam, traditional dry heat with no steam, or add steam as desired for a more humid, classic sauna experience.
How to use steam safely:
- Only add water to the sauna stones, never directly onto the heating elements.
- Use small amounts of water at a time (typically one ladle).
- Allow the steam to dissipate before adding more water.
- Do not continuously pour water, as excessive moisture can stress the heater and electrical components.
The amount of steam produced depends on water volume, stone temperature, and room heat. Most users prefer light to moderate steam rather than constant heavy steam.
How does a hybrid sauna compare to an infrared-only or traditional-only sauna?
A hybrid sauna gives you the best of both styles in one unit:
- Infrared: more direct body heating and deep warmth at lower air temperatures for a comfortable session.
- Traditional: hotter air temperature and steam capability for the classic sauna feel.
With a hybrid sauna, you can choose the experience you want that day instead of being locked into only one heating style.
Why does heater placement matter, and how are Finnmark heaters laid out?
Heater placement affects how evenly your body warms during infrared sessions. Saunas with limited heater coverage may not heat the front of your body as efficiently.
Finnmark hybrid models use multi-directional infrared heater placement plus a traditional heater for high heat and steam capability.

Are Finnmark hybrid saunas low EMF and low ELF?
Yes. Finnmark Designs places a strong emphasis on electrical safety and low EMF/ELF performance for their infrared system. Their Spectrum Plus™ infrared heaters are UL tested and engineered to minimize EMF exposure in the seating area.
Important note: any powered electrical device can produce some level of EMF. What matters is design quality, shielding, and testing. Finnmark’s engineering choices (including component placement and power routing) are intended to reduce exposure in the cabin.
Are there any plastics in the sauna, and will they off-gas?
There are some small plastic components used where appropriate (for example: controller housing, accessory outlet components, and certain covers). These materials are used in a limited way and are not intended to be exposed to extreme temperatures.
Plastic materials generally do not off-gas until ambient temperatures reach around 212°F, which is higher than typical sauna operating ranges. Under normal use, off-gassing risk is minimal.
Is any glue used in Finnmark saunas?
Yes. All saunas use some amount of glue. It is not realistically possible to assemble a sauna cabin without any adhesive use. The key difference between brands is where the glue is used and the quality of the glue.
Finnmark Designs uses very minimal glue within the sauna cabin. The glue is primarily located behind the cedar tongue-and-groove slats to secure them. The adhesive used is non-toxic and rated safe up to 250°F.
Many lower-quality brands use cheaper adhesives that may be “non-toxic” at room temperature but can begin to release odor or compounds at much lower heat levels.
Are the doors glass or acrylic?
Finnmark sauna doors use premium tempered glass, not acrylic. Glass is more heat-stable, more scratch-resistant, and maintains clarity over time compared to acrylic.
Does the sauna have removable leveling feet?
Yes. Finnmark Designs saunas include screw-in removable leveling feet designed to help stabilize and level the sauna on uneven floors.
- Foot size (all models): 3 inches tall by 2 inches wide
- Hybrid models: 5 leveling feet
Tip: Consider purchasing inexpensive furniture sliders before your sauna arrives. You may never need to move it, but if you do, that small investment can save effort and help protect your floor.
How easy is setup and assembly?
Cabin assembly is designed to be quick and straightforward. Most customers assemble the sauna with two people in about one hour.
The sauna cabin and infrared components are pre-wired for easier connection. The traditional Harvia heater must be hardwired by a licensed electrician, which is standard for traditional sauna heaters.
Do I need ventilation, and what clearance is required around the sauna?
No external ventilation system is required. Finnmark hybrid saunas include built-in fresh air intake and exhaust vents.
For proper airflow and access, you still need a small amount of clearance around the sauna:
- Hybrid models: 4–6 inches of space around the sides for airflow and service access
- Ceiling clearance: at least 6 inches above the sauna
Ceiling clearance is important because wiring and power connections are located in the ceiling area.
What is infrared emissivity, and what is Finnmark’s rating?
Emissivity is a measure of how efficiently a surface emits infrared energy. Higher emissivity generally means more effective infrared heat transfer.
Finnmark infrared emissivity rating: 0.997, which is extremely high and supports efficient infrared delivery during sessions.
What is the sauna bench weight limit?
Finnmark benches are reinforced with extra support brackets for strength and stability.
Bench weight rating: 380 pounds.
If you expect heavier loads or frequent movement, keep the sauna level and avoid rocking or shifting the unit during use to preserve long-term structural integrity.
How is the sauna delivered?
Finnmark saunas ship via LTL freight on a pallet. Your sauna is palletized, wrapped, and secured before pickup, and a Bill of Lading is generated once it ships.
- When the sauna arrives at your local freight hub, a dispatcher will contact you to schedule a delivery appointment.
- The carrier typically will not deliver the sauna until an appointment window is confirmed.
Tip: Ask the dispatcher to have the driver call you about 30 minutes before arrival so you don’t have to wait through a long delivery window. This is also the time to share gate codes or access instructions.
Truck access note: Delivery is commonly made by a semi-trailer. If your location cannot be accessed by a large truck, tell the dispatcher so a smaller truck can be dispatched (this may add 1–2 business days).
Liftgate service is included to lower the pallet to the ground. The driver is typically paid for curbside delivery. Some drivers may help place it in a garage if easily accessible, but obstacles like long driveways, stairs, gravel, or steep slopes can limit how far they can go.
Inspection requirement: Inspect the shipment before signing. If you see damage to the pallet or boxes, note it on the delivery receipt and take photos immediately.
How many boxes does the sauna arrive in, and how is it packaged?
Finnmark saunas typically arrive as three boxes strapped to a pallet. This packaging method keeps panels protected and organized for assembly.

What maintenance and cleaning is required?
Basic cleaning keeps your sauna looking new and helps preserve the cedar. Finnmark uses Western Canadian cedar that is air-dried to retain natural antimicrobial benefits.
Exterior cleaning:
- Use a microfiber cloth with a small amount of water to remove dust.
- For wood care, use a non-toxic beeswax wood conditioner periodically.
- Do not use chemical cleaners on the glass. Use a microfiber cloth and water for smudges.
Interior cleaning (recommended every 20–25 sessions depending on sweat volume):
- Use a microfiber cloth, organic orange oil, and 320+ grit sandpaper.
- Lightly apply orange oil to the area and let it sit 10–15 minutes.
- Once dry, lightly sand with 320+ grit to refresh the wood surface.
Finnmark uses thick cedar louvers, so light sanding does not affect durability or structural strength when done correctly.
What are the most common wellness goals people use Finnmark hybrid saunas for?
Many customers use Finnmark hybrid saunas as part of a consistent wellness routine. Common goals include:
- Relaxation, stress reduction, and improved sleep quality
- Post-workout recovery and muscle relaxation
- Circulation and cardiovascular support
- Regular sweating for wellness routines and detox-style support
- Skin support (especially when using red light therapy features)
- Flexibility to choose infrared comfort or traditional high-heat and steam sessions
As with any wellness product, consistency matters. Most users see the best results from regular use rather than occasional use.
